Orange County UX (OCUX) and PeopleSpace are excited to co-host a UX panel event “UX Principles: How Design Thinking and UX are Impacting companies and startups.”
UX leaders and visionaries from Apple, Amazon, Blizzard to Startup Companies will share perspectives about the impact of design thinking on their organizations and discuss how UX/Design principles shape the their work and business.
You will have a great opportunity to get a glimpse of the thought process of some of the area’s top UX leaders, learn about their personal principles and how they apply these to their work and teams.
Andy Kim: Andy Kim: Co-Founder/CEO Wype.com; Sr UX Designer @ Amazon – Alexa
Andy Kim is the co-founder and CEO of Wype, a new on-demand waterless car washing service. Most recently, he has lead the design/UX teams at Amazon.com for the App Store and Alexa groups. His career spans across 18 years in the technology industry initially as a developer then focusing on design, IA and the user experience of software products for early startups and Fortune 500 companies. Andy is proud to call Irvine his home and enjoys photography and basketball. Go Lakers.
Ryan Romero: Co-Founder/Chief Design Officer at WODcast
Ryan previously worked at Apple for 4+ years as an Information Architect and UX Designer in the Marketing Communications and Apple Online Store/Retail divisions. Before this, he worked as an Interaction Design Director at R/GA, a digital agency in New York where he helped design applications and interactive campaigns for Nike+, Nike Basketball, Nike Football, Nike Store and Google Wallet. Five months ago, Ryan recently left his full-time job to pursue his dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. He is currently the Co-founder and Chief Design Officer of WODcast, a scoring and leaderboard platform for fitness competitions. WODcast now has 300,000+ athletes in 40+ countries and will ultimately change the landscape of the sports event industry.
David Nguyen: Director of User Experience at Rakuten.com. Previously led the vision and strategy for talented teams at RED Digital Cinema as the Director of eCommerce and championing UX for digital and physical products. Prior to this, he played an instrumental role at Blizzard Entertainment in development and design of core technology applications (e.g., CRM, LMS, Global Intranet Portal) and led many other strategic initiatives.
Developing strategic solutions for corporate problems as an accomplished Software Engineer and User Experience Designer – David is seasoned leader in the User Experience (UX) field.
David is also the founder of SoCal UX Camp, co-founder of the Orange County User Experience group which he leads and is on the Advisory Board for Cal State Fullerton’s Certificate in User Experience and Customer-Centered Design program.
Todd Purgason: Creative Director & Mentor @ We Are Envoy
I am a seasoned creative director, passionate designer and committed mentor with over twenty years of experience creating work that spans from startups to the most respected brands in the world.
I started my career as an architect then in 1998 I founded JUXT Interactive where I lead my team in creating a consistent crop of effective and award winning projects for nearly 15 years. In my time at JUXT worked for a number of interesting clients like: Cisco, Coke, Scion, Toyota, Clear Channel, Xbox, DiercTV, Boost Mobile, Kawasaki, Fuse TV, Target, Adobe, Sony and many others. I Lead the team at JUXT in doing a number of interesting, and at times innovative projects ranging from Web Sites to iOS games to large scale interactive installations. I coauthored four books and have spoken at design and technology conferences around the world. I left JUXT Interactive in September of 2012.

Donald Wagner, CA Assemblyman 68th District, CA Senate candidate
First elected in 1998 to the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees, Don served three consecutive terms, including an unprecedented six years serving as Board President. Under Don’s leadership, his district balanced every budget and paid off all its debts, without raising taxes.
A practicing attorney, Don is active in the Orange County business and legal communities. He has served on several committees or advisory boards for the Orange County Bar Association and as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Superior Court of Orange County.
